Hello I’m Jane Middleton. I am an illustration artist and I make lots of creative things to sell, as well as creating murals, art in the community and in schools.
I graduated in 2001 with a BA Hons in Illustration & graphic design. I sell illustrations as art prints, greetings cards, tea towels and postcards and more!
I am also a qualified art teacher and worked in a junior school, secondary school/FE college for 8 years but I have been a self-employed workshop leader/ art teacher For over 11 years now.
I draw every day…and if I’m not doodling ideas, I am writing creative notes down in my sketch pad. What is my creative voice? It is evolving somewhat. I am drawing pieces that I am passionate about that come from within my inner spirit. My work explores and celebrates strong, empowered women who are often tattooed or adorned in symbolic body art. I am inspired by folkloric, mythical pagan, and celestial art. In addition to this, I illustrate magical, awe inspiring local landscapes, especially the boulders and rugged landscapes of the Peak District. Story telling is a big part of what I create. I want my work to resonate with people, make them feel a sense of empowerment, of wonder or of solace.
2024 was a year of developing my printmaking skills. I have a new body of work and I have used monoprinting techniques, collagraph and drypoint etching to achieve this. I adore the fuzzy, unpredictable marks that are made with monotype printing. I also enjoy the process involved with collagraph and drypoint etchings. I sometimes combine all of these printmaking techniques as a hand printed collage.
I also create pieces that are a combination of analogue and digital processes by scanning drawings and mark making using inks, bleach and gouache and then developing them further with procreate.
